Light

The Dendrobium chrysotoxum likes plenty of light, especially in the morning.

But do not forget, like most orchids, this plant may not withstand direct sunlight.

To determine if it is receiving too much light, observe the color of its leaves.

  1. More yellow than usual: too much sun
  2. Darker green than usual: too little sun

Gradually adjust the location of your orchid so it can receive the ideal lighting.

Know that during winter, more light will help you make your orchid bloom.

Temperature

Dendrobium Chrysotoxum 1 1

This is an orchid that thrives in warm climates.

Its temperature during the day can vary between 77 and 89.6°F (25 and 32ºC), with 77°F (25°C) being during the colder months and 89.6°F (32°C) during the hotter months.

But it can also withstand slightly lower or higher temperatures (for a short period).

During the night, a temperature drop of 12.6 to 59°F (7°C to 15°C) is recommended.

Therefore, temperatures between 50 and 64.4°F (10°C to 18°C) at night are ideal.

Humidity

Ideal humidity will make your orchid more resistant to pests and diseases.

So, provide your chrysotoxum with higher humidity during summer, around 80%.

During winter, it should decrease slightly, about 60% is ideal.

Pots, Potting Mixes, and Repotting

Dendrobium Chrysotoxum 2

As it likes to stay relatively humid, it is recommended to plant your Dendrobium chrysotoxum in clay pots.

Another option would be to place them in plastic pots with excellent drainage soil.

Speaking of potting mixes, they should primarily do one thing for this orchid.

Ensure rapid drainage.

Repotting should occur after flowering, when the roots are growing.

Recommended for you:

Fertilizer

They like plenty of fertilizer.

But be very careful not to overdo it and kill your plant.

Fertilization can occur in weekly doses with 1/2 or 1/4 strength with an NPK 10-10-10 or NPK 20-20-20 fertilizer.

That means, if the fertilizer requires 1 tablespoon for every 1 liter of water, you will provide:

  • 1/2: 1 tablespoon for every 2 liters of water.
  • 1/4: 1 tablespoon for every 4 liters of water.

Now, between spring and summer, you can use a fertilizer with more nitrogen.

After that, until autumn, provide more phosphorus to your plant.

They live on trees in evergreen forests, where they receive good light.

They can also appear on rocks; in these cases, they are found in more open forests.

Their habitat ranges from 1312 to 5249 feet (400 to 1600 meters) above sea level.
